Suzuki Jimny is truly impressive. Even after the release of the new model, when Suzuki launched the 5-door version, it still caused a sensation. The first car in Hong Kong has already been delivered, and global sales are very promising. How could Suzuki let go of such a perennial moneymaker? In an interview, Michael Pachota, General Manager of Suzuki Australia, revealed that they are planning to develop derivative models based on the Jimny, with possible options including a pick-up and an all-electric version.
According to Michael Pachota's interview, Suzuki will create more derivative models based on the Jimny. He specifically mentioned the possibility of a single-cab pick-up, which would pair the classic three-door Jimny with a cargo bed, enhancing its practicality without sacrificing its off-road capabilities.
Moreover, Pachota also discussed the development of electrification. He stated that future plans for the Jimny's new powertrains will depend on the progress of electrification and Suzuki's own hybrid lineup. External media speculate that there will be options for both hybrid and fully electric versions, with the hybrid version potentially being released in the coming years.
As for the fully electric Jimny, Suzuki's previously announced new car plan included a silhouette suspected to be an all-electric Jimny for the European market, maintaining its boxy and compact shape, but with some adjustments to the front design. External media pointed out that the current 1.5L engine configuration will be increasingly affected by stricter emission regulations, making the introduction of electrification inevitable in the future.
