自從轉子引擎回歸並順應潮流變為發電機後,Mazda 曾經力推的 Skyactiv-X 汽油引擎好像已被大家遺忘。這款引擎融合了柴油引擎的壓燃點火 SPCCI 技術,然而,隨著CX-30 停止提供該引擎選項,目前僅有 Mazda 3 和 CX-60 仍在使用這項技術,這使得這款僅問世四年的引擎再次面臨停產的風險。

Ever since the return of rotary engines and their transformation into generators, Mazda's once heavily promoted Skyactiv-X gasoline engine seems to have been forgotten by most people. This engine combines the compression ignition technology of diesel engines, known as SPCCI (Spark Plug Controlled Compression Ignition). However, with the discontinuation of this engine option for the CX-30, currently, only the Mazda 3 and CX-60 continue to use this technology, putting this engine, which has only been on the market for four years, at risk of being discontinued again.

After the CX-30 ceased offering the Skyactiv-X models, it is estimated by Japanese media that only 5% of consumers chose this powertrain. It is said that the manufacturer has suspended further development of this engine. Despite generating widespread interest, the main issue lies in the fact that it incorporates several new technologies, making the production cost relatively high and subsequently reducing consumers' willingness to purchase.

Furthermore, Skyactiv-X has high requirements for the octane rating and quality of gasoline; it must use 98 octane unleaded petrol, and the quality must meet Euro 4M standards or higher to ensure it does not affect performance output. This demanding fuel characteristic limits the market sales of Skyactiv-X, primarily focusing on regions such as Europe, America, and Japan.

Currently, Mazda has shifted its focus to the new generation of SUV models, incorporating technologies such as rear-wheel-drive platforms and inline-six-cylinder engines. Although the CX-60 still offers the 3.0L e-Skyactiv X powertrain, its sales are relatively low. The mainstay continues to be the 3.3L six-cylinder turbocharged gasoline and diesel engines. Discontinuing the Skyactiv-X in the future will help reduce costs, enabling Mazda to better meet market demands.
